Central North

Stevens Hill, Deloraine.

Just on the outskirts of Deloraine is an area of forest that should be 100% protected under the RFA. Certain forest types exist their that are over 90% depleted and are required under the RFA to be 100% conserved. That dosn't sit well with Forestry who recently bulldozed a road into the area with the intention to clearfell the lot.

Quick work by the local community has put a temporary stopage to any further road construction. Andrew Rickets fron the Reedy Marsh Conservation Group and part of the Deloraine environment Centre has pulled some clever strings in the protection of the area.

By seeking out small pockets of historical importance, geomorphic features, rare pockets of forest types he will be able to network together enough areas in the logging zone to hopefully make this not economically viable to proceed with clearfelling.

Breaches of the RFA can be seen thru the Stevens Hill area where 100% RFA protected forest has been clearfelled and plantations put in replace of.

Great Western Tiers.
Sitting on the slopes of the world heritage area lies the Graet Western Tiers. Annexed for its tall timbers and commercial viability this is a unique area of Tasmania and should be, as recomended time and time again, part of the world heritage area.

The Great Western Tiers has seen numerous protests and community action to try and stop the rampent spread of Forestry into the region. The last being the Mther Cummins Campaign, 'Save Koopa Roona Niara'.

That Campaign succeded in protecting a third of the coupe and brought forestries blatant disregard for Pristine forests into the state's conciosness. The campaign also cost the police force and government over $1 000 000.
